Gaming Weekly w44: Penalty of Heroes
Monday, October 26, 2009Well since I’m swedish I thought that I would actually highlight some more swedish games that’s scheduled for release soon. One of these games is coming for Xbox Live Arcade and is developed by Databox Games. Databox is an indie game development studio here in Sweden. They are currently working on their game Penalty of Heroes.
Penalty of Heroes
Penalty of Heroes is your basic side-scrolling hack ‘n slash. Really old-school and a genre that many loves because of it’s simple but enjoyable style of gameplay. The game takes place in the world of Nimo, in a time when machinery has become the helper of man, but in the end man ends up becoming too spoiled by their own technical advance. The restlessness that came with the technical advance led to greed and ill-will in the world. The King Salo send out his four friends Llaknel, Kimo, Zedwig and Darwin to win the upcoming war, win back the trust of the people and secure his spot on the royal throne.
You as a player control four warriors either by yourself in singleplayer-mode or cooperatively with up to three of your friends. If you are playing singleplayer an advanced AI-system will take care of the rest of the players since the four main characters are always on the screen.
Gameplay
During the game you and your friends will go through ten levels with hordes of enemies waiting for you. Each main character has their own unique ability, magic powers and weapons which brings variety to the game and a great coop element since you might be dependent on each others abilities. 
The game also features a power-up system that will aid the players when it’s time to power-up. The game is scheduled for release soon though no actual date has been revealed yet. Check out their teaser at the games website.
Databox Games
Databox Games is an independent game developer founded in 2008 by nine guys on the island of Gotland which is located of the coast of Sweden. Currently all the members of the team is attending Gotland University. So far they have released one game called Exhaust. The team is only officially released one game, but they have finished 24 games with different genres.
