Gaming Weekly w42: Brütal Legend
Monday, October 12, 2009Brutal Legend has been in development since 2005 and is right now only a few days from its release. The developer Double Fine Productions is also the developer for the game Psychonauts. Hopefully Brutal Legend will be just as good as Psychonauts was.

Get lost in the world of metal
Well I’ve said it before but I’ll do it again, you play as Eddie Riggs (voiced by Jack Black) a metal-fan and a roadie. During a stage show he gets transported to the world of metal when some bad juju happens. The world is every heavy metal album cover and lyrics come to life, where the evil emperor Doviculus and his demon army rules. They have enslaved the human race but it there seems to be a human resistance left led by a man called Lars Halford, they still need help though and that’s when Eddie Riggs comes to save the day. Under Riggs command the demonic forces of Doviculus shall tremble and bow before the Power of Rock.
Landing the F-GOREBOMB
One of Brütal Legends features is the profanity and gore filter, since this is Tim Shafer’s first M-rated game, we get to hear (or not depending on the filter) Jack Black land the F-bomb which will probably be pretty sweet since I love Jack Black, those who do not love people saying nutsack all the time can turn on the filter and hear the nice bleeping sounds instead, enjoy. Since the game reeks of Tenacious D in a good way we also get to see the D´s other half Kyle Gass.
You can’t kill the metal, The metal will live on

We will see a blend of beat’em up, shooter and racing elements in this game which is said to come together well without any bigger problems. There also seem to be plenty to do with the open fantasy world of Brütal Legend, loads of secrets and unlockables are waiting to be discovered. The visual style of the game is cartoonic with a metal-flair and it looks really good. Here you can read IGNs Review of the game.
You should really consider buying this open world-fantasy beat’em up shooter racer game with Jack Black awesome sauce poured all over it.
Tim Shafer is great
Double Fine Productions is a video game developer founded in 2000 by Tim Shafer, he started with some of the personnel from the awesome game Grim Fandango. Their first completed project was the game Psychonauts a really good game that somehow got lost in the shadows of other releases. The game got many awards one of them being “the best game no one played in 2005″.
