Gaming Weekly w50: Darksiders
Monday, December 7, 2009I’ve been checking out some of the games coming out around new years and january when I stumbled upon this game. To me this game is totally what I need right now, an epic single-player adventure with lots of items, monsters and a big ass sword. For all you 3rd person hack ‘n slash action-adventure nerds out there, this game will probably be for you. Darksiders is being developed by Vigil Games from Austin, Texas. Vigil Games is a part of the THQ studios and is also working on the next Warhammer 40.000 MMO.

Premature War between Heaven and Hell
The world has been torn asunder by the evil forces that has been released and prematurely brought about the end of time. In this game the players take up the role of War, one of four legendary horsemen of the apocalypse. Cast down to earth and stripped of his powers War embarks on a quest of vengeance.
I have to say I only saw this game once and immediately thought that this is going to be a great game. Darksiders features open-world exploration, a complex combat system with rpg-elements and a huge arsenal of modern and mythical weapons. This said Darksiders is a combat action game without a doubt, with some big ass swords and miniguns gravy on top. The combat is fast-paced, fluid and varied.
Previous journalist have compared the game to Devil May Cry and God of War due to its strong combination of swordcombat and guns however the designer Joe Madureira has likened it to The Legend of Zelda series. Why? Probably because the game has some puzzle-elements to it.
According to Vigil the game isn’t the standard 6-10 hour game, the game is said to feature 15-20 hours of gameplay without searching every nook of the game for items. The game also feature some sweet stylized graphics and visual effects, they seem to keep it relatively low-poly but fast, smooth and lots of baddies on-screen at the same time. The game is set for the early 2010, I believe the release should be around the 5th of January. I would check out this game if I were you, play.com has already given it a ten. It’s hard to describe but this game has something, you best check it out for yourselves.

I’m in love with this game! I’m very hyped for Darksiders and have really big expectations for the game.
Really hope it will live up to them. January can’t come soon enough!
I agree, I’m really looking forward to this one. I feel that the potential is huge.
