Gaming Weekly W51: Bayonetta
Monday, December 14, 2009It’s time for a best of 2009 list soon, but until then we still got a week to go. I thought I would bring up one game that I’ve hearing a lot of fuss about the latest weeks. Apparently the game has gotten several tens out of tens already from several magazines. The game I’m talking about is the action game Bayonetta.

Ahh those long legs
Bayonetta is an action game for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, directed by the creator of Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe Hideki Kamiya. The game is set in the fictional city Vigrid and centers around Bayonetta. Bayonetta is a witch with shapeshifting powers and several firearms. Since she’s a witch she also has some magical abilities she unleashes with her hair to fend of foes. Bayonetta possesses four handguns, two held in each hand and the other two are attached to each heel. She’s a walking killing-machine for sure.
Bayonetta awoke after 500 years of sleep, in an unfamiliar location with no memories about who or what she is. During the game she will start remembering things about her past. In the past there were two factions of warriors, the Umbra Witches followers of darkness and their rivals the Lumin Sages followers of light. Both mysteriously disappeared from Vigrid.
Dante might have possible girlfriend material here

Bayonetta is an explosive single-player exerience and the combat is heavily influenced by and resembles Devil May Cry. The player kills off enemies using Bayonettas sweet moves, weapons and magic. I’m talking about the things that made Devil May Cry such a hit, complex combo strings, lots of different attacks, juggling etc. Bayonetta also have something called “Witch Time” (In my opinion bad name, bullet time? Tequila Time? Come on people). Witch Time slows downs time and is activated by successfully dodging an attack. This allows Bayonetta to do some serious counter-damage.
I’ve always liked the concept of counters, parries etc. They give so much interactive flair to the gameplay. Bayonetta also has a range of sweet acrobatic moves she can pull off with those long legs of hers allowing her to double jump, make backflips to avoid enemy attacks. The game is said to have five difficulty modes: Very Easy, Easy, Normal and two harder modes. I glad as long as it isn’t as hard as the Ninja Gaiden-series. Which is my new standard for a “normal” difficulty. (I always play on hard when I can from now on).
The game is said to be 10-12 hours long, which is pretty long for a singleplayer experience of this genre, but it seems that the game will also have the classic “rating system” to give the players a score when finishing a level. The demo has already been released on PSN and Xbox LIVE , I recommend that you check it out if you want a preview of what’s coming in January. The game is said to be good, Famitsu awarded the X360 version with a 100% score and it got a 10/10 from Edge magazine and is the eleventh game to achive this in the magazines 16 year history.
I bet it’s gonna be gooood, so save your money people!
