Gaming Weekly W52: Army of Two – The 40th day
Tuesday, December 22, 2009As you guys know, I’m a big fan of cooperative gamemodes, it makes me tingle when I can enjoy awesome gaming experiences together with my friends. Army of Two The 40th Day is a sequel to Army of Two that was released in the first quarter 2008. I think the first game was a solid cooperative experience well worth the money. It’s essentially a third-person cooperative action game that uses a cover-system and a pretty sweet “Aggro-system” which utilizes the enemies fear of threat. The enemies will shoot at the person they think is the biggest threat creating opportunities for your co-op partner to flank them and take them out.
Back again, and this time in Shanghai
Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem are the main-characters of this game, they are the best in the business and been called in to prevail over the invading forces that have engulfed Shanghai. Tyson and Elliot own their own company called Transworld Operations (TWO), when they are on a routine mission in Shangai, things start to get bad. A competing PMC (Private Military Contractor/Company) attacks the city, causing mayem and destruction Tyson and Elliot has no choice but to take them down to survive.
It’s said that the game is to be compared to cloverfield, where a series of events occur and the characters must overcome them to survive. During the events our heroes will also have the opportunity to take up side-missions in order to earn money.
Money well spent
If you’ve played the first game, you will know what this game is about. New editions to the gameplay has been introduced, like the ability to feign surrender in order to get your teammate to flank the enemy, using humans as shields, sprinting and automated cover. We all know that bad-ass guys like bad-ass guns so more weapons and upgrades will be available, allowing for more weapon customization and interchangeable upgrades between weapons, such as adding the barrel of one AR(assault rifle) to another.

The Coop Playbook, is a new thing that refines the cooperative play, the playbook will aloow players to scan enemies before engaging in order to set up different team-based tactics. The players can mock surrender, or begin simultaneous sniper shots. This will work well together with the Aggro-system which let’s the players control the battlefield, and open up flanking spots for the teammate. The game will also introduce Morality Moments where the players are forced to make moral decisions that affect the story of the game. The game will also feature a sweet multiplayer-system, covering the usual gamemodes with focus on cooperative play.
Army of Two : The 40th Day is set to be released in January 8 in 2010. I will probably try to get this one since I love the cooperative play, with the newly introduced functions I bet this game will be pretty sweet, not necessarily a knockout but hey I don’t mind getting my ass into gear with this one.
