Gaming Weekly W6 : Bioshock 2

Monday, February 8, 2010

Okay so there is one day left to the release of Bioshock 2, I didn’t even know that the game would be released this soon. For you guys that don’t know this series, Bioshock 1 is a first-person shooter set in an alternative history in 1960s, in a fictional and dystopian called Rapture. The player takes the role of Jack , a plane crash survivor that must explore the underwater city and survive its secrets. The game has elements of first-person shooters and RPGs. The first game was pretty decent, but in my opinion a bit overrated. Now it’s time for the sequel to take place and this game actually takes place after all the shit that went down in the first game. Bioshock 2 was developed by 2K Marin and Irrational Games for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Life in Rapture

2
This time the player takes control of a Big Daddy, a prototype one, one that is both faster and stronger than earlier Big Daddies seen in the first game. The player will also have the ability to use plasmids, the awesome genetic modifications that allows the player to control different powers. This time around the player will also be able to dual-wield these plasmids, one in each hand which will probably give the game a little bit more flair. A lot from the previous game will still be there, little sisters, splicers, audio diaries and vita chambers. But a new edition will be the Big Sisters, and they’ll be waiting for you in the depths of Rapture, it’s up to you to find out who they are.

Considering that Bioshock won’t be Bioshock with a brilliant atmosphere, this time around you’ll will also be able to traverse Rapture out in the sea because of the big atmospheric diving suit you’ll be wearing. Out there you’ll be able to rest from fights, look at the scenary and find items that may be of use. I think it’s a great way to give the underwater city more feeling even though they might overload on that department.

Bioshock 2 Multiplayer

3
The game will also feature a multiplayer mode, where players takes the roles of citizens of Rapture in 1959 (year before Bioshock). There is a civil war going on and you’ve just been sponsored by one of the larger plasmid corporations to test their new stuff. You can be one of six classes and the game will feature 5 different game-modes for players to battle it out.

- Survival of The Fittest (free for all gamemode)
- Civil War (team deathmatch)
- Last Splicer Standing (Last man standing)
- Capture the Sister (Capture the flag)
- ADAM Grab (Hold possession of a little sister the longest)
- Team ADAM Grab (the same as ADAM grab but with players divided into two teams)
- Turf War (domination, pre-determined points that needs to be captured)

All the typical game-modes with different names. It’s the gameplay that will determine the difference and if it’s going to be any good compared to other multiplayer hits.

Thoughts

In the end I’m not that hyped about this game, I thought that the first game had many things that I didn’t like. I will buy this one though, maybe trade in some of my games to get it but right now I’ll hold off and save my money. I hope the fixed all my dislikes and make a perfect sequel but one can only hope.
