I’m blown away
Thursday, October 15, 2009I played Uncharted the whole several hours yesterday and I’m at chapter 18-> something, and the game is amazing. I know I use the word alot but it is friggin brilliant. It’s easily the most intense action experience I’ve encountered in several years, all the things that annoyed me from the first game are non-existent.
Pacing
They way the developers chose to tell the story is very different from the first game and I won’t give any spoilers but I really like the way they did it. You are almost always accompanied by an AI (or I guess in coop it will be player 2), and it makes the firefights that much cooler. Your AI partner ain’t stupid, she/he knows how to kill and does it pretty well, she/he sure helps to keep fire superiority. This means that flanking the enemy while being unspotted is actually working now, it’s great. I love it.
On harder difficulty-levels I bet that the game will be so much easier if you get your buddy to draw the enemies attention and then you flank’em and take them out. This makes me really interested in the multiplayer-mode that I haven’t tested yet.
I know it’s not super-important but the graphics are amazing, if you thought that the graphics were good in the last game it’s not even comparable to this, I really love the environments, they are filled with objects to make them more believable, we got subtle hints of motion blur and the framerate is steady. To sum it up, several hours in, the game has had a pace that my girlfriend actually had to drag me from the TV. I didn’t even get bored once, the pace is awesome. The single-player of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has been epic so far and it’s no doubt that Naughtydog is one of the best developers out there right now. If you don’t own the game yet, you owe it to yourself to get this game.
