In-game skies
Saturday, August 22, 2009When I play games, I find that more often than not I look up at the sky, and some games have really beautiful skies. STALKER : Shadows of Chernobyl is one of them, and of course we have The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion , Fallout 3, Crysis and Far Cry 2 which also has really nice skies. I believe that it’s very important for open-world games to have a nice night-time sky. I remember playing Oblivion and hardcore roleplayer as I am I decided to always walk between the different towns, and man oh man, if you keep using the teleport function you miss a lot of the good things about the Oblivion environment. The night sky, the lushness of the organic environment, it’s really nice to hear the wind blow and see the trees sway with the wind.
Weather effects does a lot for the feeling of immersion, I remember the first time I saw a thunderstorm in Oblivion, it was amazing and the fog was so think I couldn’t see 5 meters ahead. A really nice touch for the feeling of immersion.
I made a list of the games I think have the nicest skies.
