Left 4 Dead 2

Thursday, October 29, 2009

I really can’t get enough of Zombie-madness, even though I got tired of the first L4D after a while I’m really looking forward to the sequel. Left 4 Dead was pretty special, gather a bunch of people (hopefully four) and go through some really sweet campaigns and try to survive while checking each others flanks, magical stuff.

Zombie-bashing Sequel

I haven’t read or seen anything from Left 4 Dead 2, I’ve tried to stay away to keep everything fresh, I made a mistake though… I accidentally watched the intro movie and I couldn’t stop looking, I’ve gotta say I’m very impressed. I hope though that they add a bit more variety than just running from A to B and then secure B. I want a bit more variety to the whole process, I don’t know exactly what I want but hey that’s the game designers job right?

I just know I want it to be more grand, more varied and lots of new weapons. I don’t think that a campaign should necessarily be about runnning from A to B. It could be something more, like the players stumbles upon a building that they need to explore. In the end it’s all about survival, so throw some actual survival-stuff in there that’s not related to punching zombies in the groin. More like setting up barricades, searching for supplies and food. I know that action is “teh shit” right now but I really want them to spend more time to build up a mood, a scary atmosphere. In the first one you didn’t get afraid, it wasn’t a scary game I really want to change that. I want some scary-elements in there as well not just panicky. But hey I guess it’s not that kind of game from the beginning.

I know that Left 4 Dead is a linear game and that’s okay I just wish there was a bit more than one way to the goal. I really like the concept of making the players make a quick decision when they are panicked. We have our main-characters that lives in the city that they game takes place, and have them tell the players: Both ways leads to the exit, which path should we take? Presenting players with a choice might lead to some interesting stuff, but I don’t know , I’m just hoping.

What do you guys think?
